The Morgan Advanced Studies Institute (MASI) and the AWEN Institute at Swansea University are hosting an all-Wales sandpit event on bilingualism and dementia resilience. The goal is to bring together transdisciplinary expertise and experience from across Wales and beyond and engage with stakeholders in the Welsh language, bilingualism, dementia research and dementia care.

There is direct evidence of a health impact on improving cognitive reserve and clinical detection of dementia-associated biomarkers. MASI and the AWEN Institute's vision is to establish whether this also has implications for the improvement in cognitive reserve and delaying dementia onset in the Welsh population. This requires a trans-disciplinary approach that brings together researchers in language studies, neuropsychology, and clinical biochemistry, with non-governmental organisations, patients and their families, and local government.

The overarching vision is that this will lead to local and global impact on language and cultural preservation, and dementia resilience strategies that improve human health span and life.

This event is being run by Swansea University Morgan Advanced Studies Institute, for more information contact the event team.
