Job overview

The integrated Communications, Engagement & Involvement Service ensures effective communication, engagement and involvement with the public, health and social care staff and academic researchers; the media and cultural influencers as well as funders, the life sciences industry and peer organisations internationally.

This is a senior and strategic role within the function and the post holder will lead the public involvement function in building and facilitating a diverse, representative community of the Welsh public involved in Health and Care Research Wales’ work and funded research. With significant expertise and a track record in generating public involvement and engagement the post holder will operate in close collaboration with the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure, Welsh Government, NHS organisations, local authorities and other stakeholders, to ensure effective, meaningful public involvement in the development and delivery of research.

Working closely with the Head of Communications, Engagement and Involvement and the Senior Communications & Engagement Manager, they will also support the coordination and joint working across the integrated Communications, Engagement and Involvement service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic leadership for public involvement in research, demonstrating expertise and influence in the development and implementation of a national Communications, Engagement and Involvement strategy for Health and Care Research Wales.
  • Lead Health and Care Research Wales’ overall public involvement programme of work, aiming to ensure that future research is developed as a joint venture between the public, researchers and people working in health and social care.
  • Lead a programme of work to identify, develop and disseminate innovative public involvement practice across the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure and across the UK, promoting public involvement wherever possible.
  • Lead the implementation and application of the UK Standards for Public Involvement in Wales, providing expert advice whilst supporting and advising the Health and Care Research Wales community in auditing and developing their involvement activities according to these.
  • Provide expert advice on issues related to public involvement within the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure. This will involve linking with UK-wide discussions and developments, ensuring that the service in Wales adheres to the UK Standards in Public Involvement and consulting with public involvement organisations across the UK, current best practice and legislation
